Im new to the forum and i dont know if this is the correct subcategory for my question but i have a one that is bothering me for quite a long time now and i couldnt find a satisfying answer.
Why, especially after the year 2000, is there a trend to design the turboshaft compressors with 2 stages of centrifugal compressor? What are the adventages of having centrifugal compressor instead of an axial compressor?
God, i couldnt find an answer for a long time and this is driving me nuts! =)
Cenrifugal compressors are shorter,Easier to manufacture, Save space, the Airesearch 731 type fan engines use a 2 stage centrifugal compressor core , Later Rolls Royce went to all centrifugal compressor from a axil/centrifical set up. The #1 pick is for low cost & less parts.Doing the same work in less space for less cost, simpley the bean counters control designs anymore.
