Well the J-XX or J-20 has some flaws in its design unlike the idea of stealth it has sharp edges but its has high speeds and the needed idea for a single engine would cut the planes room for weapons ammo and maybe fuel. i think they may be also coping the F-35B which is gettn' decomissioned already for being to uneedful but i really do not know why but the flaw is also the foward canards has a flat comparison to its delta wing style. The rotating weapons bay is alot like our B-2 spirit bombers interchangeable bay weapon points which the first main use of rotating bays was for nuclear weapons for the B-2 spirit to blow up Russian weapons factories bases etc. Well if the J-20 would have a aircooled engine that could enhance its close range IR signature to make it a substancial dogfighter as well as for the IR SAMS systems and lasers. But Russias Su-50 PAK FA was a amazing sight to see it didn't look close to the F-22 ir the 35 to much. Only if China would stop coping us maybe they learn to use there own technology to make mightier planes. The Russians in the cold war era made there own planes and ours didn't look the same at all and significantly we had to evolutionize our fighters to keep up with the magnificent MiG-25 "Foxbat" and the Tu-95 Bear. Even today Russia has the biggest bomber that took design from the Rockefeller B-1B Lancer but somewhat more massive which took its name the Tu-150 "Black Jack" It seems like the worlds 3 superpowers can't just leave there hands off each others designs.

It is after all only a prototype so expect some flaws in the shape of the fuselage to accomodate stealth. By time flight testing is complete and a proper stealth prototype be rolled out, it should perform somewhat better than the F-35 or PAK FA. Keep in mind they are still trying to develop proper 5th gen engines to complete the overall stealth and maneuvarability requirements.
As far as an air superiority aircraft, that's insane. Are you sure that's an official report? So far we see in the prototype a low thrust-to-weight ratio and limited maneuvarability not only due to the lack of better engines, but also the aircraft's size and weight. If anything it is a support fighter for striking ground targets and/or airborne support for fighter aircraft better suited for the role.
The canards could be a problem for stealth, but who knows if they found a way to properly control them?
And rotating weapon bay? Who said anything about a rotating weapon bay?
The H-8 as far as we can tell is a myth. There is yet to be valid evidence of the program other than the hundreds of CGI fakes and endless speculation.

The program is very real, they even flew a couple of prototypes around the late 1970s. The problem is tracking down actual pictures to show it's maiden flight or official plans for the program in terms of production and capability against other major designs.

Let's not flood the thread with offtopic speculation about the H-8 and continue on with the J-20. -_-
From what I hear this is is proposed as a naval attack and interception platform, so our speculation on the strike role must be the most accurate. This is definitely not a strict air-to-air fighter.

And rotating weapon bay? Who said anything about a rotating weapon bay?
Iread the thread from top to bottom and I saw no evidence of a rotating bombbay. but I do see what looks like doors for internal hardpoints. Other than this I also see external hardpoints for missiles under the wings.

Hey Ashley, long time! Glad to see you're still browsing among the community. I have to say, your avatar puts a whole new meaning to the term "bi-plane".

Here's the thing. Whether rotating or not, the internal stores are just speculation to this point. The external hardpoints might not even be hardpoints at all, just aileron servo housings as on the Raptor!

We do know it has side bays for missiles, though. I don't doubt the existence of internal stores for a minute. The evidence of it being a strike platform was enough for me.

In less than 3 years a full scale machine is developed from copied F-35 plans? Unlikely, especially since the program has been in existence longer.

Wikipedia's article is full of speculations and theories that seem to get edited on a daily basis with yet more speculations and theories. Have you seen how long the discussion page is?

The PLAAF is apparently satisfied with it's performance and it will enter service very soon. An official date has not been released, but I do know it won't be ready by next year.

I know that I'm resurrecting an old topic but I think that we can solve this speculation with the latest reports that the J20 apparently can be equipped with external pylon adapters to carry four extra missiles. The J20 can already carry 4 x PL15 missiles (main bay) + 2 x PL10 short-range missiles (side bays). I think it is overkill and it sacrifices stealth but, hey, it is nice to have options.

...It's just my opinion tho. There is really no need, you know, to go spreading it around.
The adapters are for post air superiority when a mission dictates that stealth is no longer required, AKA "Beast mode" it was called by some as a joke.
