Just a couple of days ago a wildfire scorched through Hidden Valley and Middletown, my hometown, in the process burning several homes down including my own. Me and my mother are now among many victims that are now homeless. Everything I own now are in three large suitcases, plus the clothes on my back and my web sites here on the internet. Luckily I brought all my computers with my whole digital life on them, so I'll never be behind in my career goals of becoming a writer. For now I'm staying with friends until we can be let back into town to see what else might have survived. After that it'll be the start of an almost new life in a new location. Hopefully very a wet location, lol.
I'll still try to be active here while I still have access to free wi-fi.
Seconding what Hillberg said. D:
Stingy plz report back soon and let us know how we can help.
Here I am. I posted my update in Tsheten's thread, but I'll be using this one for future updates. Stay tuned.
Jeremy, thanks for the offer. I will seriously think about it and discuss it with mom. For now we're staying in a small cabin in the woods that has no internet. Thank goodness I have hundreds of movies/shows that I can play on my computer...
Also, my collection is slowly coming back, haha. A lady at an antique shop gave me a Commodore 16 for free, in the original box, never used, everything there including the manual. Also picked up a 1970s TV that I use as a monitor for the C16, some old stereos (one uses 8-tracks), and a box full of really rare low-budget 80's movies on VHS. When I obtain a new charger for my camera, or just get a new camera, I'll post some pics in the usual thread.
Well, another update...
We found a nice two-story cabin in a small community a few hours from Lassen. Gonna be a lot of work to live there, being on septic/well/Frontier internet (shudder). We move in in a few days. Also, the collection is still growing, haha.
I suppose that concludes the journey for a while.
Well, the house looks pretty and all but has quite a few problems, and it sucks that winter is on the way. It's snowing here already. But hey, at least it's a warm roof over my head and I have my own room. The internet is is pretty bad, but not as bad as I thought it would be. Still, I hate buffering videos.
Finding a job out here is almost impossible, so I'm going to work even harder on my writing. Hopefully me and Konstantin can get this book done soon.
I was finally able to upload this. This is a compilation of videos I took before and after the disaster:
That was just heartbreaking. and you were still all creative and optimistic even after sifting through rubble.... wow.
Im very sorry to hear about this, truly sad. I'm glad you and your mom are safe and have successfully relocated. It is never easy but there is only up from here. Wishing you the best, Sting.
We have here the latest in primitive technology.
Internet + Opinions = OMG we are SCREWED!
This is terrible news! Sorry for the loss, Trav. Glad you're at least building your live back up. Best of luck to you.
Thanks for all of your support. Means a lot.
