I've officially given up Combat Arms for this much more interesting alternative, "Assault Cube". It's a first-person shooter, but with a twist... you can create your own custom maps.

Allow me to share my creations. Below is a work-in-progress, "Woodland Camp" or "ac_woodcamp" (planned to be the first in a series of maps set in a forest or jungle type environment):

Fan of John Carpenter's The Thing? Well, then you'll love this... an almost screen-accurate Assault Cube version of Outpost #31:

(Yes, it even has background music of the main theme from the movie, "Humanity Part II", as well as Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" playing on the radio in the kitchen, just like Nauls' radio in the movie. wink )

Thanks.

This was actually my first map on AC, "Bio-Research Lab" or "ac_biolab". It was a fast-and-loose replica of the Talos bio-research lab in the 1990 B-movie Metamorphosis: The Alien Factor (the unofficial sequel to The Deadly Spawn).

The "Atomic Shotgun" room, office, and security desk are nowhere near what the real ones looked like, but the main laboratory (with red warning light) is pretty close. Unfortunately I couldn't get those slanted light archways in the corridors. Shame though, I love their design.

The exterior of the entire building is also not even close to the original.

The server room and the green sub-lab were my own little additions to expand the map.

Below, after the screenshots of the map, I provided four screenshots from the movie to get the idea of what I was trying to go for.

I remade the Talos biolab to be more screen-accurate:

(The fountain area and server room are not in the film. They are additions to expand the map.)

  • Map enlarged
  • Floorplan more correct (according to how it was shot, despite the constant reuse of the same corridors throughout the film)
  • Security booth more accurate
  • Main biolab a bit more accurate
  • "Atomic shotgun" room heavily corrected thanks to new mapmodels
  • Dr. Viallini's office a bit more accurate
  • Corridors are a bit more maze-like now, just like in the film
  • Slanted light arches and sector markers slightly corrected

Now known as "ac_talos".

WWII-themed railroad checkpoint:

(I'm planning on making another with more structures, and possibly a whole station someday)

ac_moon44

Sci-fi map inspired by Moon 44!

(Added some screenshots from the movie to compare)

I wish the cube engine was a bit more flexible so that I could replicate the busy backgrounds a bit more accurately, but I suppose it's close enough.
