Now that i have my Sapphire HD 6970 2 B GDDR5 I thought that it was time to review it a little bit.Anway.Regarding the card itself it's big ( at least to me as I'm not used to those high-end cards ). However if wend in nicely in my Tower-sized LianLi case. The only thing i had to do to put iti n was to unplug for a few mins the wires of the hard disk as the length of the card itself was having some trouble by colliding with it while putting it in. Note that the card has the alimentation pins located on the side of the card, which is a good thing. The card is alimentated trough 1 6-pin connector and trough a second 6-pin connector. After powering up I was satisfied about hte noise. Thecard was yes more noisy than my old GT 220 with the Artic Cooling fan but it was still quite acceptable. Other constatation : the card runs hot. In itdle I usually get temps of 55-60 C with a 20C air temp. With some tweaking torugh CCC and pushing the fan a bit I've been able to drop the temp to a good 50 C.Now benchmark time. I've tried Futuremark's benchmark ( but not yet Futuremark 11 ).First constation : even facing the rough benchmarking htecard kept a good stable 60-ish framerate. The temperature also with the standard settings reahced the highest temp of 81C which can be considered normal facing the benchmark ( I ran it at the max of my screen, in a 1280x1024 resolution ).Now it's the time about the games :COnsidering the amount of guinpowder the card has, I pushed everything to the max every time. COnstatations are just extremely satisfying : I obtained a framerate who went from 70 to 110 FPS with Crysis with everything maxed out. I obtained a similar framerate with GTA 4 too even if I hit hte limit of hte 4 GB's of RAM I have. Less resource-consuming games gave me way higher framerates like expected. I got a framerate between 120 and 280 FPS on Left 4 Dead 2 , between 80 and 240 FPS on fallout 3 and even and explosive 70 to 350 FPS on Call of Duty 4.Thetemperatures stayed quite stable with all games. However I noticed a high increase with Crysis on the last level, where the temps hit a 88 C ( which explained the smell of hot stuff I was experiencing). Except this peak the temperature never got above the 70 C while gaming with any other game. My conclusions are simple : it's totally worth the money I spent for it and it works flawlessly. It is a very good card regarding hte consumptions as well, who are as low as the one of a GTX 460. However the noise of hte fan might importunate you a little bit but if you can go bast this this is a very good card.
NICE graphics card, I use a 8800 GTS 512.
