The banshee riot-control grenade?

Not really an explosive device but I heard about this in a magazine a long time ago (could have been Popular Mechanics or Pop-Sci, IDK). It's a small hand grenade that emits a high frequency used for riot-control. Anyone know more about this?

Hmm, and its called a "banche"? Strange, I don't recall anything with this particular name, but there are a few devices that can create unbearably high frequencies.

Hi Leela, its called the "banshee". The grenade itself is still in the design stage and has not been made yet. If I remember correctly the outer shell is made of rubber and it creates a loud pulsing sound to scare away mobs and protesters.

Fixed spelling error.

I actually remember reading this in a magazine too, and it was Popular Science!
Here is an article on it I found online:

The Banshee is a 3-ounce rubberized acoustic grenade inspired by the notorious 1993 riots in Mogadishu. It disperses unruly crowds with an ear-piercing 130-decibel squeal, and is just one of countless ideas percolating inside the brain of Fariborz Bzorgi, a senior staff engineer at theY-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
