It should be mentioned that a XV-1 and XV-3 competitor was proposed, and I believe it was the S-57.

There was also a US Army-funded AARV as well, but I forgot the designation.

Also found these at the usual spot...

S-3 and S-4 were also helicopters based on the S-2
S-46: VS-300
S-47: VS-316
S-48: VS-327

S-74: original designation of the S-76.

I thought the S-3 was a training aircraft from like 1910?

Hell, I never heard of the S-3 before. I simply resorted to copy-and-paste, lol.

Guys, if your going to copy info from Secret Projects on to this forum, you might want to read a bit further to find out wheather the info is accurate or not, because I just found these posted by a member saying those other designations were not right:

S-46: VS-300
S-47: VS-300A
S-48: VS-316A = R-4
S-49: VS-316B = R-6
S-50: VS-327 = R-5 to R-5E and HO2S
S-51: H-5F to H-5H and HO3S
S-52: H-18 and HO5S
S-53: XHJS-1
S-54: R-4 modified in sesqui-tandem configuration

Another one mentioned was the S-72 (design No.233) possibly meaning DS-233.

This referring to the S-72 RSRA / X-Wing, right?

One of them was the DS-103 missile carrier flying crane project shown here...

"DS-" means "Design Study" and therefore given to helicopter designs in the early development stages.

A new designation to add!

S-97 "Raider" - Military light-tactical version of the X2 high-speed coaxial-rotor helicopter.

More pics of the X2.

I understand that coaxial system helps negate retreating blade stall during high speed translational flight, but I'm still stumped as to how the X2 over comes dissymetry of lift with a rigid rotor system....no blade flapping? Sarah..comments? Please?

It's because of the second set of rotors. It's why this and some Russian helicopters were built in this configuration, another rotor system turning in the opposite direction will counteract the dissymmetry of lift. It still has its problems because it's not hinged and will gain more stress once you reach higher speed.
